Take Off Your Cool-Satorial Sounds

as i was getting ready at 6:30 this morning,  i felt i needed that extra boost of inspiration.

as i made my way into the restroom i was inspired to open  Youtube & listen to Sartorial Sounds by a group of 7 artist coming together to share their love of all things “creative”.  as i listened to it i found  myself wanting  to  harken back to the 60’s wearing a vintage inspired pencil skirt, fedora style hat and mother of pearls earrings while sitting at a  Juke Joint with friends doing absolutely nothing but enjoying time, space and creativity.

“Sartorial Sounds integrates both music and style, two elements embedded in every culture past and present. We think it’s important to remember that everyone is an artist in their own right. And it’s the life experiences we encounter that provoke what we splash on our own blank canvas.”

How the Civil Rights Movement Influenced Style

as my family and I toured The Kings Center Memorial over the weekend I begun to take note of how style was integrated during such a time when African Americans were fighting to be treated fairly.

Despite the turmoil, people still found a way to express their individual style. From marching in the streets of Alabama to Rosa Parks being finger printed in a tailored fitted skirt, their circumstances didn’t deter their style of dress. Have you ever wondered how such an era for African Americans still finds it way to influence style today.

i,myself like Fedoras and a pencil skirt but I also enjoy street style with rugged jeans and boots.

Halloween Costume Ideas: Channeling Bruno Mars

Bruno MarsYes, I said it. Bruno Mars! On my way to work this morning something told me to listen to the new Bruno Mars single, “Locked Out Of Heaven”. For those that know me, you are aware I am a huge Bruno Mars Fan.  I give it 5 Stars. It is has an upbeat tempo, retro and MoTown vibe.  What best time than any to channel someone you admire or even have a crush on than during Halloween?

All there is left to do is incorporate his style: vintage and with a mix of doo wop.  Where should i start? Oh yeah….vintage stores and thrift shops, of course!  Here are some items I am planning to incorporate. Let me know what your thoughts are.

50’s, Charisma & Fedoras-Bruno is known for his signature Fedoras. My friend, Tai told me I could use her Fedora she picked up from a vintage shoppe in Savannah over the summer. Yay, me!

Kerry Washington goes VINTAGE !

Kerry Washington goes VINTAGE !

Kerry Washington goes VINTAGE !

Well in case you haven’t already heard the beautiful Mrs.Kerry Washington went vintage for Vogue Italia . My personal favorite was the animal print jumpsuit and the leopard print heels were just the icing on the cake. I think the look is very simple and being that she only wore a select few jewelry pieces it made the jumpsuit pop! After-all, could someone honestly walk pass you with this on and you not turn your head?

The Adventures of a Vintage Muse:Paris On Ponce

It’s Saturday and I have been up since 3am hoping to catch the “Free Dental Care” event held in Alpharetta, GA. Of course, the place was jammed packed so I resorted to visiting the near by park to catch the sunrise..Sounds dope, right?

Since I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed with work and school I decided to spend this weekend relaxing and sipping on “Sleepy Time Chamomile & Spearmint Green Tea”..what a freaking joy that is….so I decided to use my downtime to share my adventure last Saturday  to “PARIS ON PONCE“…an intriguing antique playground with over 40,000 sq ft of all things unique and vintage.

To Learn More..visit them at Paris On Ponce.

How was your weekend?……..

It seems as if it  flew by to  me. I attended a birthday party and had a blast. Right now I am kinda bored and thought I would check in with an update and besides tomorrow is the 1st day of Spring. Whoooo! Hooooo!  After leaving work last  Friday I decided to take a look at this boutique my sister has been begging me to see. To my suprise I was able to find this  ASOS green skirt I have been wanting to purchase. I purchased it on sale for $11 versus the online price plus shipping. I also found a couple of other skirts. Let me know what you guys think. Please forgive me I had to attempt to take my pictures with my webcam.

i love the print

i love that it bunches in the front

the small stripe of PINK caught my eye- pretty summer pattern

i added a belt to make it look like a dress or it can be pulled down and paired with a blazer or even denim jacket

Thrift Steal- I purchased these "Cole Haan" Douglas Loafers for $5.95 and they retail at Nordstroms for $168. Love thrifting.

I couldn't help but get this Old Navy like new sandals for $6.

I don’t know about you but I am so fucking anticipating SPRING/SUMMER!

Mara Hruby- Her Vintage Style

I have………

been writing about Mara Hruby for a couple of months now every since I read an article about her style on CurlyNikki.com. Her vintage style is one thing that stood out to me. Her style appears so chic yet effortless and it helps that I am a lover of all things vintage. Outside of incorporating Bruno Mars style(Ray Bans, Converse & Fedoras) in my wardrobe I started this year with incorporating vintage style in my wardrobe.

This year is focus on self-expression and breaking all the rules.  How different would you be if you was brave enough to dress like you wanted?  How much do we allow the media and fashion critics to play a role in our daily wardrobe?

her makeup is flawless

she makes her own accessories. love it!

First Look Of 2012: All Things Vintage -Mara Hruby Inspired

yesterday, as i was getting dressed i convinced myself wearing sequins was the thing to wear since it is the celebration of the New Year, right?….. WRONG!…. although, i felt i  had a clear idea of what I wanted to wear:sequins, black, shimmer, all that good jazz-I felt the desperation to seek inspiration and i found a video: Mara Hruby- a songstress from California with a vintage flair i admired….which inspired me to fu@king dump the typical “new year style” and follow my heart: all things vintage.

as i continue to watch the video from beginning to the end, i began to cry..why? i have no idea but now i am more than convinced i have found my new found love: all things vintage….i love her hair, her style, her accessories, last but certainly not least, her voice.

never can go wrong with a pencil skirt and the color yellow

2012 vintage style

one thing I like most about vintage is the times when it seems there were worries…

a tailored attire, bobby-pin and roller set hair style and casual dating seem to have been the only concerns… vintage screams simplicity.

for me, 2012 represents a new discovery, a new journey..a new love…. and i am happy i was inspired by Mara Hruby for my New Year vintage inspired outfit……..

take a peek at her video and let me know what you think.
